The stately, elegant Great Blue Heron is one of Canada's best loved birds. The largest of North American herons is beautifully marked with a white crown and face, long grey feathers and a dramatic plume extending back from it's head. This regal fisherman can be seen wading in the shallows on it's long legs searching for minnows and frogs. The evening sky often sees these large birds, boasting a wingspan of six feet or more, heading for a tall tree to roost for the night.
Wadding around at the cottage or patrolling the local ponds and marshes, the Great Blue Heron is always a welcome sight. |
