Cow Moose and Calf

When it comes to being a good mother, the Canadian moose is among the best in the entire animal kingdom. She always chooses a safe place to birth her calf - such as an island or a point of land where there is lots of water for escape routes from danger. Trying to approach a cow with her newborn is a dangerous undertaking. She will defend her calf from all enemies by charging and her sharp hooves are capable of discouraging all predators. Wolves, bears and even some of us humans have learned the hard way that a cow moose with her calf are better viewed from a safe distance!
